First Light…..Based upon the teachings of my Navajo Great Grandmother and the way she acknowledged and understood the fire. At the time of her passing, she was our oldest elder. She told my grandfather that the Fire is the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega. There was a time that our cultural heritage had a beginning, the dawn of time.
Out of the darkness, light, came to be, and from this light came to be the air and water, the first of our elements. Each of the elements gave a little part of themselves, shaped and formed a natural beauty, our Mother Earth was created. The Earth was given sustenance, life, with all the colors and sounds, and on the Earth, the Water was placed, surrounded by Air. The elements came together as one, and gave life to all forms of organisms, the microcosms of the universe.
In the dawn of time, we were all part of the Light as it came to be from the darkness, including the trees, plants, four legged ones, the winged ones and the creatures of the great waters. We were all connected through the elements, as one, as a whole, we got to be caretakers of the fire, we are all brothers and sisters and grandchildren of the Light. We were put on the path of spirituality. If the eyes can not see the reality of spiritual path, one has to close their eyes and look with their heart and they will feel, sense and see beyond the perception of the eyes. In the spiritual guidance of our beliefs, with all the different life forms of the Earth, we are all equal. We all need each other to live in harmony and in balance with nature. Not one species is above, below, behind or in front of one another, we are one, a part of the elements, together we dwell and exist in this divine habitat, the realm we call,” The Circle of Life”, we are all connected.
With the flesh of the Earth and Water our bodies were formed, the energy of the Light and Air, awaken our senses and we came to be one of the inhabitants of the world. Our body is but a vessel, a shelter for our spirit and thoughts to journey upon the path of Light, and for our eyes to absorb and appreciate the beauty, the true nakedness of our Mother Earth.
A time is going to come, to passed the fire to our younger generation, for them to keep and care for. There still is yet generations awaiting and coming behind us, so we need to teach our young ones how to uphold and care for the Fire. Our body, worn, used and abused, like a vessel full of empty chambers, will come to a close. Life as we see it, will cease to exist as the energy, the Light, the Fire that dwells in our spirit will continue it’s journey on the path of beauty, the path of everlasting life, path of eternity.
Once again, as in the beginning, our spirit will become the Light, the Air, and the Water, we will be part of the elements again, giving life to all forms of living organisms for generations to come.
We come from the Light, we go back to the Light, the beginning and the end, the alpha and omega……
